General Information
Are you ready for a FUNtastic summer? The Summer Adventure Camps at Free Horizon Montessori are perfect for children age 3 to 12, with separate programs specific to each of three developmental levels according to their grade level for the 2010 - 2011 school year: Primary (Preschool and Kindergarten), Lower Elementary (1st - 3rd Grade), and Upper Elementary (4th - 6th Grade). Our Summer Adventures are open to current students, incoming students, and children from the general community. Our 7-week program begins on June 14th and ends on July 30th. Each one-week session features activities revolving around an engaging theme, designed to immerse campers in a rich and active experience. Games, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, physical fitness, cooking, field trips, enrichment activities, drama, and science activities lead campers to make exciting discoveries and form lasting memories. Each weekly session includes a water fun day, field trip or enrichment program, daily picnic lunch, and plenty of play time in addition to theme-based activities. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration for each week-long session. The balance for June camps is due May 1st; the balance for July camps is due June 1st. Registration fees include all field trips, transportation, morning snacks, and enrichment activities. 2010 Registration Information: Registration is now open and continues until all sessions are full. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Session 1 (June 14th - 18th) - Mountaineering Madness SESSION FULL!
The majestic Rocky Mountains rise up in our back yard and call us to become adventurers extraordinaire. Campers will be immersed in the alpine experience with excursions that allow them to learn and practice the mountaineering skills of guidance, survival, tracking, and natural investigation. This is an outdoor adventure camp that is sure to awaken the spirit of the mountain explorers. Session 2 (June 21st - 25th) - Construction Capers REGISTRATION CLOSED! While watching a building develop before your eyes is amazing, it is the culmination of work by architects, designers, aestheticians, engineers, and builders, each of whom plays a vital role in ensuring the structure works. Gain first-hand experience with these elements as we work to complete a lasting structure for our playground environment! FIELD TRIP: University of Colorado K-12 Engineering Program Integrated Teaching & Learning Laboratory Session 3 (June 28th - July 2nd) - Asian Art Attack REGISTRATION CLOSED! Life is an opportunity for artistic expression and Asian cultures have mastered the immersion of craft in the everyday: batik, calligraphy, cooking, Kabuki, mandala, martial arts, paper folding, Zen gardening, and so much more. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the rich traditions and creative expressions of the Asian continent. FIELD TRIP: Domo Restaurant & Nippon Kan Dojo Tour SPECIAL PROGRAM: Lion Dance by Colorado Asian Cultural Heritage Center Session 4 (July 5th - 9th) - Island Hopping REGISTRATION CLOSED! Are you ready for an island vacation? From sea vessels and pirates to dances, foods, and customs of island cultures throughout the world, this is sure to be a sea faring adventure you won't want to miss! FIELD TRIP: Denver Botanic Gardens Session 5 (July 12th - 16th) - Predator Instincts REGISTRATION CLOSED! Have you ever wondered why so many cultures honor the top predators in their environments? Predators are amazing creatures with specialized adaptations that help them survive in their native lands. Come explore the talents and abilities of the strongest animals on earth through up-close encounters and delve into creating futuristic predators that roam the land and sea. FIELD TRIP: Lookout Mountain Nature Center SPECIAL PROGRAM: Hawk Quest
Session 6 (July 19th - 23rd) - Egyptian Explosion SESSION FULL! They pyramids might be one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but there is so much more: mazes, mummies, and mysteries. Undoubtedly, Egypt is a place filled with curiosities and we are determined to unlock some answers as we don the culture through dress, art, and food of its people. Come learn of the mystical and magical beliefs of this culture through explorations of craft, story, and building. FIELD TRIP: King Tut Exhibit at the Denver Art Museum
Session 7 (July 26th - 30th) - Human Triumph REGISTRATION CLOSED! What makes us human? What is it that motivates us to do seemingly impossible things? From Olympic victory to adapting to space travel, come explore our amazing body and the systems that work so well together, allowing us to thrive and continually increase our mastery of our own bodies and our world.
