Free Horizon Montessori is a free public charter school for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. We accept enrollment from a wide range of communities with a simple process of tour-application-orientation-confirmation-registration-visitation. We offer a tuition-based preschool program for students who are 3 and 4 years old. Free Horizon Montessori Tours: We believe the best way to gain understanding of the unique benefits of a Montessori education is to experience it first hand. We invite you to join us for a visit where you will have the opportunity to tour our campus, observe our classes in action, learn about our enrollment process, and meet with a member of the administrative team to have your questions answered. We hold small group tours for parents and guardians by appointment on most Thursdays from 9:00 – 10:30 am during the school year (see the home page for current tour schedule). Call Kresta Vuolo, Communications Director, at 303.231.9801 x229 for more information or to reserve your space. We look forward to meeting you! Application: Using the downloadable forms, complete a Choice Enrollment Application and Enrollment Attachment Form and provide them to the school by fax, mail or in person. Please note that we need both forms, and both must be signed. If no space is available, the child will be placed on a waiting list. For 3 and 4 years olds, we offer spaces on a first come, first served basis. Once a space comes available, the parents will be called to accept the invitation to attend FHM. For kindergarten through 6th grade, if no space is available students are placed on a wait list. If during the year space comes available students are welcomed. Applications for the upcoming year are accepted in January and if no spaces are available for the upcoming year, students are placed on a 1st round wait list from which names are drawn in a lottery with no regard for applicaton date. The 2nd round wait list is established based on application date and are accepted starting in Feburary. For any students who did not make 1st round lottery, their name is automatically placed for 2nd round acceptance using their original applicaton date. Open Enrollment for the 2010/11 school year begins on January 6, 2010. NOTE: Due to changes in the Jeffco facilities use in neighborhood schools, the First Round of Open Enrollment was extended to March 1st for this year only for Kindergarten through 6th grade. Preschool enrollment began on January 26th as scheduled. Enrollment Attachment Form Second Round Choice Enrollment Application (2010 - 2011 School Year) Full Day Kindergarten Financial Assistance Application (Deadline March 1st, 2010) 2010 - 2011 Programs and Fees
Confirmation: When a space becomes available, the Enrollment Director calls the next family on the lottery or waiting list to offer the opening. The family is given a deadline by which they must respond (typically 48 hours), otherwise we assume the family is no longer interested and offer the space to the next family on the lottery or waiting list. Once a family accepts the opening, the Enrollment Director mails the Confirmation Form, which must be returned to the school, along with the annual Enrollment Fee and a copy of the child's birth certificate, by the deadline indicated on the Confirmation Form. Additionally, a Tuition Agreement will be sent to families enrolling in our preschool or full day kindergarten program. Tuition payments must be received by the due dates indicated on the Tuition Agreement. All questions regarding financial matters should be directed to the Financial Secretary at extension 235. Orientation & Visitation: Enrollment Orientation Meetings are for new families that have been accepted to the Free Horizon Community or those who have been gone for more than one school year. Parents meet with a member of the Administration to review the school's philosophy, policies and procedures as well as the Tuition Agreement for 3 and 4 year olds. Re-enrollment: Enrollment for the next year occurs mid-January and requires submission of the re-enrollment application to confirm the parent's and student's intent to attend. A Confirmation Letter from the school is then provided to indicate receipt of the application form and non-refundable Material Fee.
Transfer enrollment: Our school atmosphere requires students to make responsible choices regarding time management and prioritization, therefore parents of transfer students must evaluate their student's potential for successful integration into the Montessori curriculum. Transferring students are required to assist in providing their prior school records to their new school. Once the enrollment process is completed, including an evaluation of the student by the Head of School, the student will be accepted or placed on the wait list for future notification of an opening. Choice Enrollment Information:
Enrollment in a charter school is a choice enrollment under Jeffco School Board Policy JFBA and Regulation JFBA-R. Under choice enrollment policy, a student who is accepted into the school is accepted for the span of grades of that school, and is not required to reapply each year for admittance. The school in which the open enrolled student is admitted becomes the "home" school of the student for the span of grades of that school.
Should a parent and student wish to return to their neighborhood public school, they would have to apply to the neighborhood school for admittance. If the neighborhood school has "space available" in the requested program, and the student meets the applicable program entrance requirements, (age, etc.), the child would be admitted. If the student is not admitted, the student would continue to be enrolled at the charter schoool.
